Quality Matters at BC3

QM LogoQuality Matters (QM) is a nationally recognized, faculty-driven process for ensuring the quality of online and hybrid courses. Focused on continuous improvement, QM uses research-backed standards and peer review to promote excellence in course design and student learning.

Thousands of institutions—including community colleges, universities, and K–12 schools—subscribe to QM to support quality online education.

Three Core Components of the QM Program

Developed using evidence-based best practices, the QM Rubric provides clear, detailed standards for evaluating online and hybrid course design. It includes annotations that guide instructors in applying and understanding each standard, along with a scoring system used during reviews.

QM encourages a collegial peer-review model. A database of certified QM Peer Reviewers supports both informal and official course evaluations. Only certified subscribers like BC3 may conduct official QM reviews.

QM offers online, in-person, and web-based workshops to help faculty and instructional staff strengthen their online teaching skills. Topics range from course design and alignment to accessibility and learner engagement.
