Online Learning FAQs
Online Learning FAQ's
Online learning at BC3 gives you the flexibility to learn on your schedule—while still getting the same high-quality education and support as our in-person students. Whether you’re new to online courses or just want to make sure you’re set up for success, we’ve got answers to your most common questions.
Online learning gives you flexibility—but it also requires motivation. Here are a few traits that can help you succeed:
- You manage your time well
- You’re organized and self-motivated
- You can follow written instructions independently
- You’re comfortable using computers and navigating online tools
- You communicate clearly with your instructors
- You stay focused and avoid distractions
- Want to know if online learning is a good fit for you?
Expect to spend 10–12 hours per week on each online course. The exact time depends on:
- Your reading speed and comprehension
- Comfort with technology
- Familiarity with the course subject
Online courses are not self-paced. You’ll follow a schedule and submit work by set deadlines.
Most BC3 online courses are asynchronous—meaning you don’t need to be online at specific times. However, some instructors may schedule live chats or meetings. Always check the course syllabus or ask your advisor before registering.
All students taking online or hybrid classes must complete the myBC3 Technology Orientation—a free, self-paced, online course that helps you get comfortable with the tech tools you'll use at BC3.
You don’t need to register. Once you enroll in a course, the orientation will appear in your Blackboard Ultra dashboard. It takes about 2 hours to complete.
- Required for: Online and hybrid students
- Recommended for: All BC3 students
- You only need to complete it once.
BC3 uses Blackboard Ultra as our Learning Management System (LMS).
