(Butler, PA) In her premiere Saturday with the No. 7-ranked Butler County Community College volleyball team, Warren Area High School graduate and dual record-holder Madelyn Nosel led the Pioneers with 30 kills in BC3’s season-opening victories against Erie Community College, Buffalo, N.Y.

Sarah Lucas had 33 digs and Teagan Fortuna 27 assists as BC3 defeated Erie 25-11, 25-23 and 23-8 in the first match and 25-21, 25-10, (24-26), 27-25 in the second in the Field House on BC3’s main campus in Butler Township. 

BC3, which qualified for the past two national championship tournaments and finished 24-2 overall in 2025, has opened its third season in a row with a 2-0 record.

The Pioneers were ranked No. 7 among 86 National Junior College Athletic Association Division III programs In a preseason poll released Aug. 17.

BC3’s program has been ranked in the Top 15 in Division III of the National Junior College Athletic Association in 37 of 41 polls dating to Oct. 4, 2021, including the past 18 in a row.

Nosel, Fortuna, Julia Stoepfel, Addison Say, Mackenzie Kurtz and Taylor Simon are among nine new players on a BC3 team seeking the program’s 21st consecutive winning record under head coach Rob Snyder, whose squads are 504-174 through 27-plus seasons.

Nosel, an outside hitter with BC3, holds Warren records for kills in a season with 453 and in a career with 1,061.

Stoepfel added 16 kills and Kurtz 15 in the Pioneers’ wins Saturday. Simon had 26 digs and Say 19 assists.  

Lucas and Simon are defensive specialists and graduates of Butler High; Fortuna, of Laurel, is a setter and opposite hitter; Stoepfel, of Grove City, is a middle hitter; Kurtz, of Knoch, is a middle hitter and Say, of Keystone, is a setter and opposite hitter.

BC3 visits Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Johnstown, at 6 p.m. Aug. 28.
