(Wexford, PA) Maddox Shaffer in his fourth career match for the Butler County Community College men’s golf team Friday helped the Pioneers to a one-stroke victory and a split in a fall season-opening tri-match at North Park Golf Course in Wexford.
Shaffer shot an 82 to lead four teammates who finished in the Top 10 individual spots as BC3 defeated Westmoreland County Community College 333-334. The Community College of Allegheny County won the tri-match with a 315.
The lowest four individual scores from each squad are counted to determine a team total.
CCAC’s Kayden Lyons placed first among men with a 1-over 73 and teammate Mack Dempsey was second with a 76. Westmoreland’s Shaun Kovac and CCAC’s Henry Simcox tied for third with 80s, Noah Dubyak was fifth with an 81 and Shaffer sixth with his 82.
The Pioneers’ Colt Sprankle was seventh with an 83, Johnnie Mikos eighth with an 84 and Carter Blystone tied for ninth with Westmoreland’s Johnny Lovre with an 84.
Bryn Baluh led three Westmoreland golfers with the lowest women’s scores with a 100. Stephanie Suitor shot a 107 and Rachael Ayers a 121. The Pioneers’ Leah McClellan had a 126.
Shaffer, a graduate of Armstrong Junior-Senior High School, played in three matches in the spring for BC3 and averaged an 84.7.
Sprankle is a graduate of Knoch; Mikos, of Cardinal Mooney, Youngstown; and Blystone and McClellan, of Butler.
The Pioneers’ fall golf season concludes with the WPCC championship tournament. BC3’s spring season features regional play, regional tournaments and possible national championship appearances where golfers compete for All-American status.
