COVID-19

At BC3, the safety and security of our college community is a top priority every day. See information below on the growing public health concern, COVID-19. BC3 officials are closely monitoring the situation and taking precautionary measures.

COVID-19 is a newly identified coronavirus that causes respiratory illness in people and can spread through person-to-person contact. This virus was first detected in China and has spread to other countries, including the United States. For information on the background and current situation, visit the website for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Symptoms of COVID-19 range from mild to serious and can include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Symptoms can occur 2 to 14 days after exposure. COVID-19 spreads in the same way as the flu or cold: mostly through the air by coughing or sneezing; personal contact such as touching or shaking hands; and/or touching a surface with the virus on it.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19). The best way to avoid illness is to avoid exposure to the virus. Preventative actions include:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

News Release: BC3 to suspend face-to-face courses, move to remote instruction through May

BC3 has taken preliminary, proactive steps in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses at all BC3 locations. Efforts include:

  • Open communications and access to current information
  • Providing hand sanitizing stations in public locations
  • Updating hand-washing information in all restrooms
  • Ensuring custodial disinfecting products are effective against viruses
  • Increasing custodial sanitizing frequency in common work areas and surfaces

Combined with individual prevention efforts, the college community can reduce the spread of viruses.
