What is PRAXIS™ ?

PRAXIS I™

All teacher candidates in Pennsylvania and most other states, seeking permanent instructional certification must take and pass the PRAXIS I™ exams. For many colleges and universities, passing the PRAXIS I™ exams is a requirement for entry into the college of education.

 

PRAXIS II™

The PRAXIS II™ exams are content driven with different exams for elementary and secondary education. All teacher candidates seeking initial teacher certification (undergraduates and graduates) must take and pass the appropriate PRAXIS II™ exams for licensure according to your State's requirements.

PRAXIS I™ Prep Online Class Descriptions

PRAX 111 B01 - PRAXIS™ I PPST View Course Outline(pdf)

This Internet course is designed for both elementary and secondary education teachers and teacher candidates preparing to take the PPST Praxis I Reading, Writing, and Mathematics Exams. Praxis I EDUC 111 online provides plenty of interaction with the instructor through submitted assignments, discussion board topics, and live chats in the chat room in Blackboard. Homework assignments are submitted to the instructor so the instructor can help students discover areas of strengths and weaknesses. Students will learn exam taking strategies, improve reading comprehension, learn how to write an effective essay response, understand key mathematical concepts, and get plenty of practice exam questions.

 

PRAXIS II™ Prep Online Class Descriptions

PRAX 113 B01 - Elementary Education View Course Outline(pdf)

This course is designed for elementary education teachers and teacher candidates preparing to take one or more of the following PRAXIS II™ exams necessary for state licensure:

  • Elementary Education: Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment (0011)
  • Elementary Education: Fundamental Subjects: Content Knowledge (0511)
  • Elementary Education Content Knowledge (0014)

The course focuses on the four key subject areas in the elementary education classrooms, concentrating heavily on reading/language arts. Students will practice cognitive thinking and apply higher order thinking skills to practice questions. The class provides plenty of interaction with the instructor through submitted assignments, discussion board topics, practice exams, and live chats in the chat room in Blackboard. Exam taking strategies and reduction of exam anxiety are also addressed.

 

PRAX 114 B01 - Math/Science View Course Outline(pdf)

This course prepares teachers and teacher candidates for the following Praxis II exams:

  • Secondary Education: Math Content Knowledge 0061
  • Secondary Education: Biology Content Knowledge 0235
  • Secondary Education: General Science Content Knowledge 0435
  • Middle School Mathematics 0069, and Middle School Science 0439

The class provides a thorough review and offers numerous practice exercises and exams. The online format offers flexibility to busy students and professionals.
