Summer programs will run in succession from early June until September. Each program will be 2 hours in length and run on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm. View our flyer for more information.
Begin your visit with a trail walk. Explore the seldom seen corners of the Conservancy and learn to identify and use useful wild plants. Make your own rope from dog bane, sample some delicious and healthful edible plants, make your own custom walking stick, and tour our beautiful historic gardens. We will adjourn to the fire ring and light a campfire with flint and steel, hear some live music, and relax by the evening flames.
Come to the Conservancy and learn how to do things the old fashioned way. Card and spin wool into yarn that you can take home. Create a real leather pouch with hand spun flax thread. Learn how our ancestors made soap and cooked their food. Harvest, thresh, and winnow grain. Our instructor will show you how to do all this and more!
Come hungry to the Conservancy and learn how to create delicious meals over an open campfire. We start by selecting the proper woods, lighting the fire and getting the coal bed just right. We will mix, knead, and bake bread. We will cut fresh herbs from the garden to season our creations. Potatoes will bake right in the coals and seasonal vegetables will roast before your eyes. This activity can be offered as vegetarian if requested. Once you sign up, the instructor will contact you to tell you what to bring.
Unlike traditional croquet played on a manicured lawn, Extreme Croquet is played on unusual terrain with natural obstacles to master. Tree roots, wetlands, weeds, woods, ponds and the Barn offer unique challenges. Advance your ball through wickets forged in The Conservancy Blacksmith Shop using a mallet crafted from Conservancy felled trees. Trade strategies about managing the barn shot or maneuvering the ponds.
